Back to Different Op Types

Scanning missions are one of the most confusing to get the hang of without a tutorial. However, once you understand how scans work, they are a great way to obtain a lot of rewards with minimal stamina.

First – The Research Necessary

While scanning can be done without any research, the ability to find correct coordinates outside of the starting systems is next to none. So, we’re going to cover that first. The quality of the equipment you put on your ship is entirely based on the research you have done. Scanning research can be found in the electronic section, under directional scanning.

Second – The Ships

The next thing you’ll need to know about with scanning is which ship to use. Ideally, you’ll use the Unseen. It is an exclusive ship that you can purchase with either longinus cubes in the event page or with gala in the Trading Post. It is very important that if you use an exclusive ship, you use it only to drop scan probes and not collect in it. Exclusives are ships that bring achievements when shot down and most corps will not compensate for the lost ship, only the components. If you do not have the exclusive, you are welcome to use any t1 ship that has 3 component slots unlocked. I would suggest a destroyer because it is still fast.

Scanning

Okay, we have covered the research and we have covered the ship. Now it’s time to fit our ship and run our scan missions. I am going to show you the fit I use for my t3 ship and the way I fly it keeps it under warp protection a majority of the time (outside of the stopping at a planet). Note, the scans will stay on your map for 12 hours or until you visit them, and you can only scan a system once every twelve hours!
